8 RANDOM THINGS……
Mary over at Home-Steeped Hope tagged me for “8 Random Things” the other day.
This is my post in keeping with the rules, which are:
1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves
2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their own 8 random things and post these rules
3. At the end of your blog you need to tag eight people and post their names
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
Here are eight random things about me:
1. I commute by Amtrak train three hours each way to work in Manhattan, NY every day.
2. As a young boy (until age six) I lived in a home with no indoor toilet. We had a two-seat outhouse, though I never recall both seats being occupied.
3. I have traveled to every continent on earth except for Antarctica.
4. The most outstanding thing I ever got to do while traveling was take a three-day sight-seeing safari in Africa.
5. I love woodworking and have a great shop in which I spend very little time.
6. I recently took up photography and it has become an excellent hobby. You can see some of my pictures in my online Gallery.
7. I know how to milk a cow by hand, and that has caused me to appreciate milking machines.
8. My last name is pronounced “ice”.
So now I have to tag 8 people. The problem is that I don’t think I know eight people in the blogosphere to tag! I tag: Mrs. Meg Logan. I can’t think of anyone else who hasn’t already been tagged.

Wow, I love this game…see I feel like I know you that much better now. 3 hours each way!?! Must be a great job…and all the continents except Antarctica, what are you waiting for? :O)
I love home-made frames, and I’m biding my time trying not to nag hubby to make me a whole bunch out of our falling-down barn-barnwood…your hobbies sound wonderful!
Thanks for participating, I really enjoyed learning more about you, and am glad I’ve been pronouncing your last name right!
Yeah, I have been sort of hoping for some excuse to visit the land of the penguins…
guess I better get on it! LOL…
Mrs. Meg Logan
Well, it took me a few days, but I finally got over here!
What a commute! But after living in the Hudson Valley and upstate New York for several years I can understand why! I would never want to live in Manhattan. Very interesting to see, but I’ve always been glad to leave. LOL
Also glad to know that I had the correct pronunciation of your name. I enjoyed my stop here!
Thanks for dropping by to say “Hello” Deborah! We love upstate NY as well. It’s very pretty country.
3 hours??? My goodness. What do you do on the train? Do they have wireless internet?
When I lived in Korea I used to have long bus rides across town (like 90 minutes) and I would usually read or just people watch, which was absolutely fascinating. What time do you leave for work?
Welcome to A Laymans Thoughts Michele! I sleep on the way to work in the morning. I leave my home at 4:15am. I have a Blackberry that can be used as a tethered modem, so I have Internet access . I read a lot, work a little, Blog sometimes, watch a movie on my iPod, listen to good sermons and teachings, or sometimes just relax on the way home.
Thanks a lot for dropping by! Check out my other site at http://www.LarryEiss.com
Hello, Larry, thank you for stopping by my site and for your kind words.
Let’s see – I can relate to a few things. My parents have a cabin that has an outhouse. The installed an indoor toilet, but after such a long time, they don’t like to use it. (It uses too much water!)
And so they continue at the ages of 70 and 83 to run outside to use the toilet, even in the winter! I know outhouses.
Also – I have been twice to several of the game refuges in Kenya. I’ve been to the Ivory Coast (Mombasa) by antique train – and it is beautiful! Seen the pyramids along the Nile…. etc. (Stop me before I break into song.
) Haven’t been to all of the continents, though – perhaps someday!
Thanks Holly, for dropping by amidst your crazy schedule. Boy would I love to see the pyramids. You have a very interesting history! It’s nice to know that I am not alone in my knowledge of actual outhouses. The game preserve I visited in South Africa was a private place called “Thorny Bush.” (http://www.thornybush.co.za/) It was a highlight of my temporal experience.
And please: feel free to break into song! I love your writing, and the Spirit of the Living God is oozing from your posts. I bet your singing is wonderful. “Paint a punkin on your belly…” I’m with you, Holly.
